Baptism and Holy Communion
Lutherans accept two Sacraments as God-given means for penetrating the lives of
people with his grace. Although they are not the only means of God's
self-revelation, Baptism and Holy Communion are visible acts of God's love.
In Baptism, and especially evident in infant Baptism, God freely offers his
grace and lovingly establishes a new community. It is in Baptism that people
become members of Christ's Body on earth, the Church. In Holy Communion -- often
called the Lord's Supper or the Eucharist -- those who come to the table receive
in bread and wine the body and blood of their Lord. This gift is itself the real
presence of God's forgiveness and mercy, nourishing believers in union with
their Lord and with each other.
Holy Communion is celebrated at all weekend worship services.
All
who are baptized and believe Christ is truly present in the bread
and wine, are welcome to share in our Lord's Supper.
Church Membership
Discovery Class
is for those who have an interest in membership
in the church
or studying Lutheran beliefs. The
class provides
spiritual growth, an opportunity
to meet other people in the
community, discover one=s
spiritual gifts, and
understand the
ministry of the Lutheran Church.
The 7-week class is offered four
times a year. The class meets at
the church on Sundays at 9:45
a.m. If one chooses to become a
member of Christ Our Shepherd,
he/she will be received into the church at the end of this very
interesting and fun course.
Nursery
Nursery is offered for children ages 0 through 3 years on Sunday
mornings. All adults who work in or
assist with nursery have been
trained in the prevention of abuse.
