Scholarship Fund Guidelines

The purpose of the COS Scholarship Fund is to provide financial assistance for students attending college, Lutheran Seminary, or ELCA related institution.
Recipient criteria:
- Be a member in good standing at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, either active in youth ministry or attending church on a regular basis (2 times per month)
- Be accepted to a 2 or 4 year college, university, technical school, or Lutheran Seminary
- Maintain good academic standing (2.75 GPA)
Scholarship Guidelines:
- $12,000 available to ELCA candidacy accepted students to cover cost of first year tuition at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary or other ELCA Seminary
- Fixed amount up to $1,000 to selected non-needs based recipient attending an ELCA related institution
- Fixed amount up to $2,000 to selected needs-based recipients in a calendar year ($3,000 if student is going to attend Lutheran college)
- Maximum of $12,000 awarded in one year to all recipients
- Check to be written to the college, university, technical school, or Lutheran seminary
- Students can apply annually if they meet the recipient criteria outlined above
Selection criteria:

- Christian Leadership
- Ministry Aspirations
- COS Tenure
Application guidelines:
- Student shall submit:
- Name; Address; Phone; email
- Name of college, university, technical school, or Lutheran Seminary
- Response to two essay questions:
- i. Why do you need this scholarship; and
- ii. Describe your faith journey during your high school years. Share who helped you along the way, any significant event or memories, and who you have helped.
- FAFSA Confirmation/Summary page only showing Expected Family Contribution (EFC)
- Application deadline is April 15 of each year
Scholarship Committee guidelines:
- Meet on a quarterly basis
- Review applications between April and May
- Select and notify recipients no later than June 1
